COURSE FOR THE UNITED NATIONS MILITARY OBSERVERS


In the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, a three-week UN Military Observers Course – UNMOC 2016 has started.

The aim of the course is to qualify participants to work on duties of military observers in peacekeeping operations, in accordance with the procedures and standards of the United Nations. The office of primary responsibility for the course realization is the Peacekeeping Operations Centre which has independently conducted the said course for the third time.

Teaching at the course is conducted by the instructor team of the Peacekeeping Operations Centre with the support of the commands of Army, AF&AD, and the Training Command and the with involvement of guest speakers from the Serbian Armed Forces, professionals outside the MoD and the SAF with experience in performing the senior duties in the UN and the EU peacekeeping operations and one instructor from each of the Austrian Armed Forces International Centre (AUTINT), Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC) from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Hungarian Defence Forces Peace Support Training Centre (HDF PSTC) from Szolnok, Hungary.

The course is attended by a total of 19 officers.

In the first two weeks of the course, the focus is on the realization of the theoretical contents of importance to the training of listeners for the duties of military observers of the United
 Nations, and in the third week, practical training will be carried out at the South Base Peacekeeping Operations and Pre-Deployment Training Centre.

The course is important for the overall system of training of the members of the Serbian Armed Forces to participate in the peacekeeping operations. because its realisation meets the annual demand of MoD and SAF for candidates for the duties of military observers in peacekeeping operations. In addition, the realization of the mentioned course is of importance for the improvement of the overall capacity for the realization of national and international courses for the participation in peacekeeping operations at the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, as this course falls within one of the most complex courses in the organizational sense.

The UN Military Observers Course was opened by the Chief of the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, Colonel Milivoje Pajovic. Completion of the course was planned for 7th October 2016.
